What will I earn while I learn?
If you’re aged 16 to 18 or in the first year of your apprenticeship, you’re entitled to the National Minimum Wage for an apprentice.
If you’re 19 or over and have completed the first year of your apprenticeship, you’re entitled to the National Minimum Wage.
If you’re in England or Scotland, you’ll work a minimum of 30 hours per week. Those living in Wales will work at least 16 hours a week, and apprentices in Northern Ireland work at least 21 hours a week. Your apprenticeship will last for a minimum of 12 months.
Will I have to pay any costs?
No. You won’t have to pay any fees to do an apprenticeship, no matter what age you are. All costs are paid by your employer and the government.
Government research shows those completing an apprenticeship at Level 4 or above could earn £150,000 more on average over their lifetime than their peers without an apprenticeship.
What salary can I achieve?
Apprenticeships can open doors to virtually any career, so you’ll have great prospects. If you want to pursue a career in accounting, you could expect to earn around £24,500 on completing your AAT qualification*, £52,000 by becoming a self-employed AAT Licensed Accountant** and £52,500 if you progress to become a chartered accountant.**
